You and your buddies have decided to take on the nine deadly descents of the world. Griff, one of your friends, decides he is better than the entire SSX Team and he is gonna do it on his own and in a shorter time period than the team. The race is on. You start as Zoe, leader of the SSX Team, and off you go, dodging trees left and right as you fly through the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Next stop, Antarctica, to face the freezing cold. After that, how about Russica to see who has the best control on thick, slippery ice.
SSX stands for Snowboarding Supercross. Created by EA Canada, it was originally published for the old Xbox and the Playstation 2. Now it has been remastered for the Xbox 360 and was the featured Games with Gold for December 2014. This was the first racing game I’ve played and I have to say it was really good. The controls are difficult because the are set up in a weird way and I have yet to figure them out. An example of the difficult controls is that usually the right thumbstick controls the camera angle and you use the A, B, X, and Y buttons for the actions. Well, in SSX the right thumbstick and the normal action buttons all do the same thing: perform certain tricks to earn points. The right combinations of buttons or directions will make your character do a fantastic trick. SSX is a very fun game to play. You can customize your character and buy them gear that glows in the dark. Plus it has interesting elements like a wing suit so you can fly over huge canyons and a rewind button for when you make a mistake or you die. I give SSX a 4.5 out of 5 stars. This was the first racing game I’ve played and it has set the bar high for other racing games. It has a simple story line to follow and is fun to play, in general.
